The subtitle for this book is: Daily Reflections on the Path of yoga. Organized first by section according to the 8 limbed path, each of these contain daily lessons on how to integrate mindfulness and yoga into your daily life.
Ramayana, Ramesh Menon
One of the great epic poems of India (the other being the Mahabarata) that follows the journey of Rama during his 14 year exile to the forest. Rama’s faith and legacy is challenged at every cross. Supported by his brother and his soul mate Sita, the journey depicts piety and reveals the various archetypes & challenges he encounters throughout. This story has something for everyone, epic romance, family discord, a hero’s journey and lots of battlefields to resolve life’s biggest challenges.
Perfectly Imperfect: The Art and Soul of Yoga, Baron Baptiste
In his second book Baptiste shows us what happens to the mind, body and spirit after the yoga pose. It is within the transformation that you find space for spiritual and emotional growth. Small in stature big in message, this book is a simple guide in how to live a life full of grace and equanimity.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Sri Swami Satchidananda Translation
The yoga sutras contains 196 sanskrit sutras (or threads) that guide you through the theory and practice of yoga. The tradition of yoga had long been passed down orally, here is one of our first encounters with the written road map for how to experience this profound practice while remaining connected to its source.
Eastern Body Western Mind, Anodea Judith
As the title indicates, this is an examination of the Eastern chakra system as revealed through the lens of Western psychology. The book is divided along the 7 chakras and examines what happens when East meets West in terms of thought, context, inherited karma, balance and trauma. The result is a revealing way to understand the modern and increasing complex social realities we navigate daily.
The Radiance Sutras, Lorin Roche, PhD
“112 Gateways to the Yoga of Wonder and Delight.” The ancient text Vijnana Bhairava Tantra is brought to life by the wisdom and experience of Dr. Lorin Roche. The book is divided into three parts all of which are conversations between the divine feminine (Shakti) and divine masculine (Shiva.) In the first section Shakti is asking questions to Shiva about the meaning life of her belo, the second is filled with their deep conversation and observations of love and wonder within the World and the final section is Shiva showing the answers to the burning questions presented by his beloved. The translation is beautiful and the poetry is beyond moving. This book was and continues to inspire my teachings and personal love affair with yoga philosophy.
